My Friday Night

So, I had an eventful evening that requires photos, videos, and a whole lot of explanation to really get across the depth of my experience, but I’ll just give it a few sentence shot for now. Temple (the undergraduate bit) sponsored a sake tasting/cultural event, which a bunch of us attended. I didn’t drink much sake. I learned a whole lot about how it’s made though, and I can now point people towards quality sake to a certain extent, but I didn’t try much. I may just be paranoid, but I could feel my kidney twinging after having two small cups, so I didn’t partake of the other five samples available. Along with the sake and sake presentation was a whole host of performances ranging from traditional Japanese instruments such as koto and shamisen to some Ainu performers to some hip/hop and more nerdy stuff. I took a few videos, and I’ll post them once they are uploaded and encoded. I also took a bunch of photos which I will upload to Flickr and hopefully provide further explanation.

Before the jpop group and the maid cafe dancers performed (so I missed them), though, we decided to hit Roppongi for a bit. I probably should have just stayed at the tasting and then went home, because my side is hurting me now, and Roppongi is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. It was 1,600 yen for a frozen mango drink (on an average day, I spend less than that on food and water for the whole day), and I couldn’t even taste the alcohol! Plus, Carrie and I ended up missing the last train on the Asakusa line and had to take a 3,200 yen cab ride home. So, it was an expensive trip to Roppongi for not much bang. Either way, I don’t think Roppongi is my favorite area. I like to go out and go dancing, but maybe there is a more local scene that we can hit that isn’t overpriced and geared towards foreigners. Either way, next time I hit Roppongi, I’m just not going to drink anything and just dance!

Tomorrow, I am supposed to go to the grand Sumo tournament, so hopefully I will have some interesting photos and stories from that. I’m going to sit perfectly still and hope that my side doesn’t hurt tomorrow. :) My first video is encoding now, and I have three others and some photos, so they might not make it up until tomorrow!

Anyway, ja mata!
